April and I had a really wonderful Valentines evening lat night. It was one of the rare times when I did everything right and really showed her she was special. We had dinner at a new little Italian restaurant where the service is normally wonderful.
Thankfully last night, the service was amazingly slow. The full dinner including desert took about two and a half hours. That gave us a long time to talk about everything under the sun. We even exchanged gifts at the dinner table just like the do in the TV commercials.
I've been wanting to figure out for a long time, what it means to have our relationship be more spiritually connected. We occasionally pray together and talk about what God is teaching us, but it seems that most of the times we experience God together is in the context of a prayer meeting or something at church.
I think part of the deal is just taking the time as it seems there are always normal family things that we talk about first, kids, work, home, bills, etc. When we have the time and energy left, we talk about spiritual things. Not that this is the best but it seems to just work that way by default.
So last night, we were able to get past the basics and spend quite a bit of time talking about our spiritual growth, our hopes for the future, how we see God working, and how we're learning to understand God and his love for us more. All in all it was a really great evening and I think we're learning what it means to experience God as a couple.
